Now that Julian is in kindergarten, I'm wondering if it is time to have him watch Duck Soup. I"m liking the idea.

Today I start teaching Julian how to ride a bicycle. We bought him one over a year ago. Initially he was cool to riding it, preferring the Spiderman trike his Uncle Paul gave him. Now that he is in kindergarten and his circle of friends has increased to include several cyclists, it is off to the park and off with the training wheels.

I bought an iPad back in April. I made the mistake of showing it to Julian. He promptly learned how to play games on it and how to get to the App Store to find new games to play. I let him use the iPad this summer as he has been between preschool and kindergarten. Starting Monday he goes back to school and I get my iPad back - Happy Days!

Success

"What's your name?", I asked Lovebug.
"Julian!", he said triumphantly.
Goodbye Abbott and Costello.

Julian’s Abbott and Costello Moment

Julian and I were driving home from preschool when I decided to quiz him to see how much he retained of the info we have been drilling into him lately. Things like our address, phone number and his name.
“Who is Julian”, I asked.
“Me”, he replied quickly.
“That’s right, you are Julian, I said approvingly.
“No, I’m me”, he corrected me.
“Then who is Julian?’, I queried.
“Me”, he answered.
“So you are Julian”, I said.
No papa, I’m me”, he pronounced.

We’re still recovering from the loss of our dog Mabel. The waves of sadness are still coming but with less frequency.
Julian asks as to her whereabouts and we tell him that she has gone to be with her mother. He is amazed that she has a mother. Up till now he has believed that mothers are the domain of boys and girls. It will floor him to learn that Mabel’s mother is a dog and not a human.

Boys and their clothes

It is a hot, humid night San Diego and Julian wants to wear one of his winter pj outfits. Last week we surrendered his clothing choices to him. He is very aware of his clothes and insists on dressing jeans and t shirts with his favorite characters on them. We took him shopping last Saturday to buy his outfit for a wedding in which he will be a "Flower Boy". As we collected the tan pants, white shirt and Doctor Who-ish sneakers, Julian spotted a pink Oxford shirt that he insisted on us buying. He wore it proudly all the rest of the day and to pre-school on Monday. I fear we have a fashion horse in our midst!
